Short answer: yes. Biotin and collagen are commonly taken together and there are no known interactions between them. The longer answer covers a few things worth knowing first.
What each one is
Biotin is vitamin B7, a water-soluble vitamin. It contributes to the maintenance of normal hair and normal skin, and to normal macronutrient metabolism. The UK reference value is 50µg, which is low — most supplements provide far more.
Collagen is a structural protein and the most abundant protein in the body. Supplements provide it as hydrolysed peptides, meaning it has been broken into smaller fragments. Marine collagen comes from fish skin and scales and is predominantly Type I, the type that makes up most of human skin.
Vitamin C matters more than people realise
The body cannot synthesise collagen without vitamin C. If your collagen supplement does not include vitamin C, make sure you are getting it around the same time — from a supplement or from food. Citrus, peppers, kiwi and tomatoes all work.
Marine collagen is not vegan
This gets misrepresented constantly. Collagen is only found in animals. There is no plant source of true collagen, so any product marketed as vegan collagen is either a collagen builder — nutrients that support your own production — or mislabelled.
Watch for products described as having vegetable capsules and vegan collagen in the same breath. The capsule shell may well be plant-based while the contents are not. If you avoid animal products, or you have a fish allergy, marine collagen is not for you.
How long before you assess it?
Hair and nails grow slowly, so this is not a category with quick answers. Clinical research on collagen and skin outcomes typically runs over eight to twelve weeks of consistent daily use. Nails and skin hydration are usually where people report noticing changes first.
Consistency matters more than dose or timing. A daily habit you actually keep beats an ideal protocol you abandon after a fortnight.
The blood test issue
This one rarely appears on packaging, and it should. High-dose biotin can interfere with certain laboratory blood tests, including some thyroid and cardiac markers, producing results that are misleadingly high or low.
It is not dangerous in itself, but it can lead to a misdiagnosis. If you are having blood taken, tell whoever is doing it that you take a biotin supplement. Many clinicians will ask you to stop for a few days beforehand.
When to take them
With a meal is easiest on the stomach. If your product also contains vitamins A or D, taking it with food matters more, since both are fat-soluble and absorbed better alongside fat.
Our approach
Our Biotin & Collagen Complex combines both with a full B-complex, MSM, keratin and hyaluronic acid. Every quantity is declared. It contains fish, so it is not suitable for vegetarians, vegans, or anyone with a fish allergy — we would rather say that plainly than bury it.
Food supplements are not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking medication, speak to your GP before starting any supplement.
